    GERMANS NOW COMPLAINING OF HEATWAVE
“After making excuses right through the Russian winter, and blaming the extreme cold for the defeat of their armies, the Germans are now telling their people of the hardships encountered on the Kharkov front, where fighting is going on in “abnormal” heat, rising at times to 86 degrees. Berlin says that the heat is having a serious effect on the troops, who, some weeks ago. were shivering.”

    FIRES FOLLOW FROST.

    “PEOPLE KILLED. Thaw in Britain.
Eleven people lost their lives and a number of families have been rendered homeless as a result of fires in Britain during; the holiday week-end.

A general thaw has set in all over Britain.
The temperature in London jumped up to 38 degrees, resulting in the rapid disappearance of the snow throughout the city.
Parts of Kent which were under seven feet of snow are now in danger of being flooded.
Another heavy snowfall in London yesterday morning before the thaw made tobogganing and skiing popular on Hampstead Heath and in other open parts.”
