Time For A New Ice Age Scare?

Arctic ice area has increased by more than 10% over the last four years. Experts tell us that current weather patterns are caused by missing Arctic ice, so it follows that the excess ice is caused by missing ice.

Not a scare – more a reality. We just don’t know for sure when it will start. Maybe the signs are here already but the AGW believer make it hard to identify.
In the best case scenario we will have a situation like ~40 years ago, which I remember. Summer’s cold and wet and winter’s with frozen pipes. We had in the 2010/2011 winter again frozen pipes.
The next worse case would be a little ice ace considering the lower sun spot cycle 24.
Then the real worst case because of the end of the ~10000 year inter-glacial cycle.
Take your pick. I hope it’s only the best case scenario.

I tell all of my devoutly religious AWG believer friends that they should be more worried about falling sea levels.

My pick is new Ice Age: 80% chance. New Maunder minimum, 20%.
I believe we’ve already gone beyond the early 70′s.
I’d like to call this new grand minimum “Eddy” as a deserved tribute to the work of John A. Eddy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_A._Eddy).
      Other names, anyone?:-)

ps.: I believe the magnetic fields of the Sun and Earth are too weak now and we’re just coming from a very strong sequence of solar cycles, from C18 to C23, and this is importantly different from what happened in previous grand minima; these facts could trigger IMO the new Ice Age-probably in connection with volcanic activity.

Maybe we should dig out some of the old 1970 papers. Maybe here would be a good place to start except the same old scaremongering name are there.

    It’s time. Bring it on!
Of course, we could easily argue that what the Chicken Little Brigade propose would exacerbate the coming cold. But — don’t do it –.
I know that Einstein was famous for saying “consistency is the hobgoblin of inferior minds.” But probably only people like The E can get away with patently illogical inconsistency. We can’t have our cake and eat it too. Most of us argue that increased levels of co2 have at most a marginal or null effect on temps. So increasing CO2 levels would not alleviate another Lil Ice Age.
But, bring it on about the Ice Age. It’s more plausible then the transparently false predictions of doom the Cry Wolfers continually regurgitate, and it’s not going to help the bs artists’ cause.
On CO2, I am going to do my usual, and ask y’all to link to and promote this 3 minute video which all the “little people” need to see, which shows algor in his movie willfully repeating the key foundational ipcc deception, which concerns co2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK_WyvfcJyg
Plus, an excerpt from my Apr 18th jnova comment on CO2:

It’s time skeptics stop towing the warmist line on CO2, that all reasonable skeptics believe it has a positive greenhouse effect. Please, there’s no empirical evidence for this … :
[MIT professor] Lindzen … says: “Claims… that man’s activity [CO2] have contributed to warming are trivially true but essentially meaningless.”
Piers Corbyn, in a comment, takes it further: “Observational evidence gives the possibility that the net effect of CO2 increases on World temperatures may not be ‘only trivial’ but in fact miniscule, zero, or even negative due to errors in some of the science some claim or – I would suggest – hitherto not understood feed-back and competing processes…”

When pushed around by dedicated knowledgable people
I will admit that CO2 has mild thermal properties in concentration.
Certain thermal windows ( cheaper ones) are filled with CO2.
    Better ones have argon.
But since there is no CO2 layer or concentration in the atmosphere
I tend to doubt the thermal properties rendered upon the climate, of individual molecules measured in ppm.

    • avatar Billy Liar says:

Thermal conductivity of CO2 is ~60% of that of air – likely the reason it is used in double/triple glazed windows. Argon has a slightly greater thermal conductivity than CO2. Maybe cheaper is better?

    • avatar Eric Simpson says:

Interesting analogy to windows, Jimash. The key iconic image the cagw propaganda specialists foisted on the unwary “little people” is that of a thick glass enclosure, representing CO2, surrounding the earth, meant to mimic, of course, and actual physical gardening greenhouse.
But there’s no thick glass enclosure around the earth. CO2 is a trace gas, making up only 1 in 2500 parts of the atmosphere. To think that that meager and sparse molecular sprinkling of an inferior greenhouse gas (vs as you say argon, and water vapor) could make a discernible difference is ludicrous. The emperor has no clothes here.
Sure, it is agreed that CO2 is technically a greenhouse gas. Problem for those who want to base civilization gutting policies on this theory is that there’s huge uncertainty and ambiguity in the theory, including many suggesting that CO2′s effects are near nil. A common bone of contention is the wavelength question of whether CO2 has any effect beyond 200ppm. (Talk to GeologyJim about that.) Certainly it would be a stretch to try to assign precise mathematical figures on a CO2 caused effect.
It’s a minuscule trace part of the atmosphere. Little a tiny 800w bathroom heater in a giant open auditorium in winter, CO2 is not going to make a big enough mark to overcome the natural variability of much much greater elements like the Sun, oceans, other atmospheric factors, planetary tilt, water vapor, etc etc. The greenhouse gas theory, as a significant contributor to climate warming, is ideologically (from the leftists and environmentalists) driven propaganda, and bunk.
And, of note, we were already skating near the bottom of acceptable CO2 levels. By chance, we were at ~ 280ppm, but most plants could not survive below 160ppm. Best for plants is 1000 to 2000 ppm. It would only help matters to get the trace gas CO2 up closer to 1000ppm (still only 1 in a 1000 parts of the atmosphere!!). As it is, certainly within a century we will transition to non-CO2 based fuels, such as hydrogen and hot & cold nuclear fusion. So now’s the time to get it up a bit, though it won’t make a bug eyes worth of difference in the long run.

  5. avatar ozspeaksup says:

well, I dread cooler summers, as much as 40c heat knocks me round, the plants need warmth to fruit, without at least 34C summer days for a few weeks we get no pumpkins melons tomatos etc. while I dont mind carrots etc I would sure prefer the other salad veggies in summer were also growable.
and I am stocking up on woolens winter shoes and a greenhouse for cooler weather growing..solar cycles looking slow and low.
