Wow! I don’t see how that occurs given the sea it is in. I’m wondering how often that has occurred? I don’t recall ever seeing pics like that! The story is heart wrenching……. it is cold that kills!
“Ukraine’s Emergency Situation Ministry said the country’s death toll had now risen to 135. Some 2,000 people have been hospitalised suffering from frostbite or hypothermia. Ten deaths in Italy have been linked to the extreme winter weather, including two people who were crushed under a collapsed roof south of Rome, and a 91-year-old woman in the northeast port of Trieste.” from a link in the link provided……
“Nine people have died in the past 24 hours in Poland, where temperatures fell to -24C in northeastern parts of the country. More than 30 more deaths have been reported as a result of the bitterly freezing weather that has swept across Europe……. In Bosnia, where the weather has claimed eight lives, helicopters have been delivering baby food and aid packages to isolated villages in the east of the country…….At least 20 people have died in the Czech Republic since the onset of the freezing weather.
In the Dalmatian region of Croatia, more than 100 villages have been cut off by snow. ……… In Serbia, 11,000 people are still cut off and a state of emergency has been declared. …… In the Czech Republic, temperatures of -39.4C were recorded in the south west along the German border. Forecasters said they expected them to fall even lower overnight.”
For those who have never seen 40 below or colder…… you can’t possibly imagine. It hurts. It kills. It is arbitrary. At times, unrelenting. It is a beast you can’t fight. People have froze to death with Yukon heaters directly upon them in that cold. My heart goes out to those suffering through this.
So when are they projecting an ice free Venice?
