Scientists attending a global warming conference in London warn the world is close to a point of no return, which will make conditions irreversibly hotter.
Scientists at the “Planet Under Pressure Conference” say it’s critical to contain global warming in this decade.
Will Steffen, executive director of the Australian National University’s Climate Change Institute, said, “This is the critical decade. If we don’t get the curves turned around this decade we will cross those lines.”

If we don’t get those curves turned around, we may all freeze to death.

I’ve lost count of how many times we’re supposed to have crossed a point of no return. Having said that, I probably shouldn’t mind that they declare so many; people aren’t as stupid as the alarmists make out to be.
Dave, I’m not sure…. true, there are many who quit buying into the insanity, but there are many who are saying ……. this time!!! This time if we don’t quit…….. (fill in the blank), then we’ll all be doomed!!! And, they continue to blather this madness, and will until they die.
Steffen belongs in a straight jacket in a psychiatric ward. The dumbass thinks he’s Chicken Little.
It seems Flannery (though still accepting the tax payers’ largesse,) has returned to naming obscure fauna after himself. Steffen however, ‘hockeysticks’ on regardless, perpetuating the ‘Big Lie’ ( exponential CO2 driven AGW.) Hoegh-Guldberg seems to have pulled his self-appointed ‘Climate Change Guru’ head in. Perhaps no cyclones over Queensland this season has puzzled him!
The government finds someone like to Steffen to say what they want to hear. If not him, someone else is ready to bank the cheques… Believing it yourself is a bonus but not a requirement.
In fact, if his career is anything like Enrlich’s (40+ years later none of his dire predictions of doom came true), he will be showered with rewards and honours for being such a clever fellow and a boon to humanity.
“Scientists attending a global warming conference in London warn…
Yeah – of course. If everything was fine, he’d be stuck back in his shit-hole in Canberra.
More Chicken Little Crap here on that conference:
Plus the usual BS of the IPCC projections being ‘Robust’!!
IPCC predicts rise in extreme climate events
“A hottest day that occurs once in 20 years is likely to become a one-in-two year event, except in the high latitudes of the northern hemisphere, where it is likely to be one-in-five years,” according to Sonia Seneviratne, a climate expert at ETH Zurich, which is part of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.
Seneviratne was speaking at the Planet Under Pressure conference, which is being held in London this week (26–29 March).
Seneviratne said that the report found that many of the projections contained in the IPCC’s fourth assessment report, which was released in 2007, are robust – for example, projections relating to temperature extremes. However some projections, such as those relating to droughts and tropical cyclones, “need to be revised, based on new evidence and literature”.

I will have to try and dig up the graphs on IPCC projections but they are very enlightening… One shows the hindcast up to 2000 for the global circulation models. It’s a perfect fit. Those models are incredibly accurate!
Then you see the temperature record up to 2012 extended over the projections. As soon as they switch from hindcast to forecast, the models go off in one direction and the global temperature in another.
And they’re having some exceptionally fine weather* (except they can’t see because they’re indoors). No doubt the extreme niceness of the weather will, in due course, be blamed on CAGW or global weirding.
* very bad for windmills though
