Plausible Deniability In Government

Nixon was big on that. Obama invented implausible deniability.

In 1984, I was working for the DOE doing the Safety Analysis Report for their proposed nuclear waste disposal site near Carlsbad, New Mexico. A top level manager came in to my office one day and said

You are doing great work. Really great work. Just don’t find anything which hurts the project.

I quit the next day. Most people don’t.

Yikes! I worked in Safety Analysis at Sandia labs.

(ahem) “If the project is as clean as the wind-driven snow, by default it would be literally impossible for anyone on the planet to find something that hurts it.”

I served on the Radiation Safety committee at a well known university for many years and was also responsible for “Personnel Protection” at my laboratory.

Sadly, I did not have your testicular fortitude.

Luckily, I reached retirement age without any life threatening incidents on my watch. While radiation was the major concern there were much more deadly issues. Now it is SEP (Someone Else’s Problem).

I can’t think of a safer location for nuclear waste than Yucca Mountain. We can transport the stuff safely, and the site is very geologically stable. Unfortunately, Harry Reid put politics ahead of wisdom and succumbed to a NIMBY strategy. Obama and the Democrats are against oil, coal, natural gas (fracking), and nuclear, yet claim the Republican goal of “all-of-the-above.” When will the media call them out on it?

Meanwhile, here’s the latest socialist United Nations plan to tax carbon and spread the wealth: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/04/20/tab-for-uns-rio-summit-trillions-per-year-in-taxes-transfers-and-price-hikes/

Harry Reid is just a puppet whose strings have been pulled by those that made money off the project being discarded. Harry Reid has been a puppet his entire career.

I find stuff on a regular basis, usually minor. Ya stop, fix it, regroup and move on. It’s never worth someone getting hurt and the coverup is always worse than the initial problem.
