The president didn’t stop the Keystone XL oil pipeline — Republicans did.
That’s the message on Tuesday from White House spokesman Jay Carney as gas prices rise above $4.00 per gallon.
“The president didn’t turn down the Keystone pipeline,” Carney said, because the proposal to construct the pipeline was reviewed by the Department of State.
President Barack Obama’s decisions to nix construction of the pipeline has been repeatedly attacked by the GOP, and by some Democratic-allied unions representing construction workers. They say Obama cancelled the pipeline, and up to 20,000 well-paying jobs, to please his environmentalist supporters as the November election draws closer.
The November decision to reject the construction plan “was the result of a decision made, to honor, the concerns of those in Nebraska, including the Republican governor … [that the pipeline] would threaten the water supply in Nebraska,” Carney said.

This is a typical White House bold-faced lie. The governor signed a bill to reroute the pipeline, not eliminate it.

(Reuters) – Nebraska governor Dave Heineman signed into law on Tuesday bills to reroute the Keystone XL pipeline away from the ecologically sensitive Sandhills region. One bill puts into law a compromise agreed with Keystone pipeline builder TransCanada to move the route away from the Sandhills and the Ogallala aquifer. The second bill approves state funding for an environmental study for a new pipeline route not to exceed $2 million.
By law, the governor now has the final say in state government on the new route. The U.S. Secretary of State has the final say nationally.

And the Gov likely signed the reroute because of the shrieking of the Eco – zealots. Just to shut them up, not due to any concern of his own. When will everyone figure out, we have to go straight at these eco-maggots, call them what they are, defund them, criminalize their activities.
For some reason Wild Kingdom comes to mind here.
No one in Nebraska needs a good job with the Obama economy just humming along. We don’t need new sources of energy with gas prices head toward $5. Anything you say, Jay.
