New Year’s Resolutions For Climate Scientists

  1. I will admit that warming has been much slower than we expected
  2. I will admit that recent sea level rise is nothing unusual or threatening
  3. I will admit that our forecasts of declining snow cover were wrong
  4. I will admit that Arctic temperatures are cyclical, and that we have no idea what will happen to Arctic ice over the next 50 years
  5. I will admit that our forecasts of Antarctic warming have been a total failure.
  6. I will admit that Polar Bear populations are not threatened
  7. I will admit that climate models have demonstrated no skill, and are nothing more than research projects
  8.  I will admit there was a Medieval Warm Period
  9. I will admit that that there was a Little Ice Age
  10. I will stop pretending that we don’t have climate records prior to 1970
  11. I will admit that the surface temperature record has been manipulated and is contaminated by UHI
  12. I will stop making up data where none exists
  13. I will honestly face skeptics in open debate.
  14. I will quit trying to stop skeptics from being published
  15. I will admit that glaciers have been disappearing for hundreds or thousands of years
  16. I will stop telling people that the climate is getting more extreme, without producing any evidence
  17. I will admit that hurricanes are on the decline
  18. I will admit that severe tornadoes are on the decline
  19. I will admit that droughts were much worse in the past
  20. I will admit that efforts to shut down power plants have potentially very serious consequences for the future
  21. I will pay for my own tickets to tropical climate boondoggles  like Cancun, rather than improperly using taxpayer money for political activism
  22. I will admit that there is no missing heat
  23. I will admit that temperatures have been cooling for at least the last decade
  24. I will publish the raw data and not lose it.
  25. etc. etc. etc.

I would not give climate models the dignity of calling them research projects. The word research implies that these are genuine scientists attempting to honestly test a hypothesis. How are climate models research when the results are rigged and predetermined?

    • avatar Glacierman says:

They are post-normal research projects……..you know, where influencing opinion toward a desired action are more important than actually doing the science. It’s all the rage at the universities.

    • It would be a most remarkable climate if one country somewhere in the world did not have a warm year every once in a while.

      • avatar Njorway says:

I totally agree with you. I post this because people are so ridiculous. But I would like to know why these conditions

        • It’s interesting that after a century of “global warming”, Norway is as warm as 111 years ago!!

Certainly here in England we have had a very mild autumn, purely and simply because we have a nearly constant SW airflow. I would be pretty sure that Norway has experienced the same.

The same airflow off the Atlantic led to our extremely poor summer. I guess this weather pattern kept out the colder polar air in Norway.

    Great!
    More ones:

I will not finish my papers using selected words only to get more funds
I will not make pre-releases (tojournalist friends) of my research before publishing them
I will not label the skeptics as deniers
I will not delete e-mails to deceive FOIAs
I will not pose as skeptics to be um trojah horse

    • avatar Glacierman says:

Those are nice, but reality is probably more like this:

I will only use Gmail or Hotmail to game the system.
I will only discuss really importantant issues, like how to get journal editors fired, on my personal cell phone – no written record.
I will ignore published papers that have shown my friends paper was total crap.
I will not let it be known that I think Michael Mann is a borish idiot who fudges his data and results.
I will always kiss Trenberths arse.
      Etc., etc.,..

  3. One for Mikey Mann :-

I WILL GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL. I WILL NOT PASS GO. I WILL NOT COLLECT £200.

  4. Thanks for a very useful list for future reference. I can make use of this. It is all sad but very true.

  5. avatar Eric S says:

Before the Cry Wolfer climate ‘scientists’ get to all the other resolutions, just admit:

    1. Current temps are not unusual (no h. stick!).
    2. Trace gas CO2 has NOT been shown to be a cause (only a result) of warming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK_WyvfcJyg&feature=player_embedded

  6. avatar John-X says:

#1 : The CAGW scam is the richest f***ing gravy train in the history of the world; I will continue to ride this sumbitch until all the wheels come all the way off

  7. avatar Soren F says:

    >17. I will admit that hurricanes are on the decline
    >18. I will admit that severe tornadoes are on the decline

If these two declines have bottomed and lately started climbing as part of cooling I suppose climate scientists’d be excused for admitting so ;-)
