The Alberta Tar Sands are believed to contain the planet’s second-largest deposit of oil, after Saudi Arabia, and extracting it takes a lot more energy than traditional drilling. If we start down that path, warns James Hansen, a climate activist and scientist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, it will be “game over for the planet.”
For most of the last 600 million years, atmospheric CO2 was much higher than at present. The planet survived just fine. The planet flourished. Live evolved on land and in the sea. Corals evolved with CO2 more than 10X current levels. Shellfish evolved. Mammals evolved. Reptiles evolved.
Our country needs the energy – he should be fired immediately. This country was not founded by idiots, and will not survive them for long.
Hansen is a threat to the entire world.
James Hansen just wants what’s best for us, don’t you see? After all, he grew up in a world without electricity or heat, & his grandchildren (you won’t be allowed to have grandchildren, though, since you won’t qualify under the eugenics* program) should have the right to do so as well.
*Seriously, you can’t argue against eugenics: it has the Greek stem for “good” right in there!
LOL…………
Hansen is a useful idiot. He gets to run around making stuff up and making lots of money for himself. People certainly give him lots of attention for this alarmist screeching. He follows the agenda and the powers that be who are in charge of hime pretend to not hear him. If he has a boss, the boss clearly does not care what Hansen does on company time. Working in his office altering data, by the way, does not count as work.
He’s not an idiot, just a misanthrope.
I agree, Hansen is not an ‘idiot’, but he is a ‘useful idiot’.

It’s depressing that Hansen is able to control national energy policy, to head it in a direction that is clearly not in America’s best interest.
Hansen’s an activist, not a scientist. Time to clean house and get rid of this career govt employee.
The pipeline is a national security issue, plus at least a modest job creator. It may not appreciably reduce gasoline costs, but would reduce market volatility especially whenever there is a hiccough in the Middle East.
Fired, yes. From a cannon.
…into the Sun.
I’m a geologist… and I’ve argued since I graduated that “global warming” is good for our planet… all that locked up carbon (dioxide) is now free once again. All that the formation of coal does for our planet is deplete carbon (dioxide) from the atmosphere… and how anyone can construe that as a good thing (as in lower carbon dioxide levels is somehow good) is beyond me. Why do the insane have control of the asylum? Where is the logic? Where is the rational thought? Why does no one listen…
Our country needs the energy – he should be fired immediately. This country was not founded by idiots, and will not survive them for long.
I agree, Obama has to go sooner rather than later.
my only issue with the pipeline is the fact its planned to go right over the fault line that even FEMA think may have an event soonish..surely they could manage to avoid seriously risky areas to lay it?
as for Hansen, how come no ones requested a sanity test on him???
We need to evacuate Los Angeles
The Alaska Pipeline crosses major faults (and survived a big one 2 years ago)
Pipelines cross the San Andreras fault, the Wasatch fault in Salt Lake City, the Hurricane fault near St George, the Teton fault near Jackson Hole, etc., etc.
We have the engineering skill to build pipelines across fault zones
