Why Is James Blalog Hiding Critical Information From His Clients?

Glacier Bay was first surveyed in detail in 1794 by a team from the H.M.S. Discovery, captained by George Vancouver. At the time the survey produced showed a mere indentation in the shoreline. That massive glacier was more than 4,000 feet thick in places, up to 20 miles wide, and extended more than 100 miles to the St. Elias mountain range.

By 1879, however, naturalist John Muir discovered that the ice had retreated more than 30 miles forming an actual bay. By 1916, the Grand Pacific Glacier – the main glacier credited with carving the bay – had melted back 60 miles to the head of what is now Tarr Inlet.

James Blalog claims that he used to be a skeptic, before he saw how fast glaciers were disappearing. Is he unaware that Alaska’s most famous glacier retreated almost 2,000 feet per year between 1794 and 1879? He scares people with this :

shocking time lapse video shows how a glacier has receded thousands of feet in just four years.

That is exactly the same behaviour which occurred 220 years ago, near the bottom of the hockey stick.

Blalog’s global warming story is a joke.

  1. It’d be a joke were it provided free of charge. I wonder if it’s anywhere near outright fraud?

He was a sceptic until he discovered to money potential.
More likely a scam artist looking for a scam to promote, like Brother Al.

  3. avatar Jason says:

Can Mr Blalog show us past projects or writings to prove he was once a skeptic? This seems to be the desparate new tactic by the global warming crowd – To pretend that one was once a skeptic, similar to how Richard Muller recently tried to fool everyone.

  4. avatar MrCannuckistan says:

All I see is ice sliding down a hill and breaking off into the ocean. Doesn’t that mean the glacier is growing?

Who really cares where the terminus is as long as there is more ice coming from higher up the glacier.

In the end this looks like nothing more than calving and not melting.

“Because that is where the money is.” ;)

  6. When I researched the issue of glaciers myself, I found the data sets limited, noisy and highly variable. I.e., periods of rapid growth followed by periods of rapid melt. Given the ambiguity in the data it’s to be expected that people will tend to find what they were looking for.
