In 1995, the IPCC predicted :

IPCC Draft 1995

A “striking” retreat of mountain glaciers around the world, accompanied in the Northern Hemisphere by a shrinking snow cover in winter.

http://www.nytimes.com/

Since the world’s best climate scientists made that forecast (under the sponsorship of the UN) Northern Hemisphere winter snow cover has increased by 30,000 Manhattans.

Yeah, but the northern hemisphere accounts for only one half of the worlds surface. I’m sure the Solomon Islands are still snow free. Global warming is real, Charles Manson says so.

  2. avatar Andy DC says:

You know darn well that Global Weirding had not yet been discovered in 1995.

Due to that revolutionary new scientific concept, we now know that more snow/less snow, hotter weather/colder weather, more rain/less rain, more hurricanes/fewer hurricanes, good hair days/bad hair days are all totally consistent with a warming planet.

To further promote this vital Global Weirding research, we need more of your money. A lot more and before it’s too late!

A bit like what the Mrs says when you have done something wrong but don’t know what!!

For years in New York State five upstate cities have annually competed for The Golden Snow Ball Award, presented to the city with the most recorded snow every winter season. Because last year ended a decade of record keeping, the purveyors of the award recalculated each of the cities’ “average” snowfall. The results are here http://goldensnowball.com/. Note the “devastating” reduction in average snowfall for these cities since the 1970s. Why, there’s a reduction of about .3% between the two periods. At this rate, there will be no snow at all in upstate New York in just over 5000 years!! Oh, the humanity.

    • avatar Andy DC says:

If humanity can’t adapt to a .3% reduction in snowfall over 30+ years from the coldest decade of the last 100 years, we are an extremely pathetic species.

But of course, you are just a pinprick on the map and have no idea what is going on in places like the South Pacific and the very high latitudes where no one lives and there is very little data. In those places, warming is going flat out crazy, man!

    • How about the “Golden Hockey Stick” award, to be presented (in absentia of course) to the sharpest blade in The Team. I nominate Richard Muller, a shadow member of that body, for denying what his own data shows, to wit the absence of warming this century.

Here’s this “born again” sceptic’s comments recently:

“Our biggest surprise was that the new results agreed so closely with the warming values published previously by other teams in the US and the UK… This confirms that these studies were done carefully and that potential biases identified by climate change sceptics did not seriously affect their conclusions.” said Prof Muller.

Sorry – he’s a “born again” warmist. Anyway, he’s not “statistically significant”, just a self-publicist (something IPCC this way comes) and a pain in the arse. Prime candidate for the new award.

That’s because you are using the same database and allowed UHI to dominate the record. You changed nothing.

    Who would have guessed?
The IPCC can trace its origins as far back as 1910:
TIlE END OF THE WORLD COMING.
THROUGH AWFUL HEAT, INTENSE COLD, OR FLOOD.

That’s one hell of an alarmist piece, Basically we’re all doomed because of plentiful resources of Iron and coal, “the cessation of the sun to radiate heat” and as the “length of the earth’s day slowly increases through the retard-ing influence of the tides produced by the moon” presumably due to the observation that had just been made at the time, that the moon is slowly moving away from the Earth.

And here is the icing on the cake!
“Wallace estimates that one foot of the earth’s surface is, on the average, washed away by the streams every 3,000 years and deposited at the bottom of the ocean. This amounts to more than 300 feet in a million years.
As the main elevation of Europe is 671 feet, and that of North America is 748 feet, it follows that by the operations of present forces Europe will be washed into the sea in 2,000,000 years, and America in 3,000,000 years.”

Reminded me of this quote by Mark Twain,
“In the space of one hundred and seventy-six years the Lower Mississippi has shortened itself two hundred and forty-two miles. That is an average of a trifle over one mile and a third per year. Therefore, any calm person, who is not blind or idiotic, can see that in the old Oolitic Silurian Period, must a million years ago next November, the Lower Mississippi River was upward of one million three hundred thousand miles long, and stuck out over the Gulf of Mexico like a fishing-rod. And by the same token any person can see that seven hundred and forty-two years from now the Lower Mississippi will be only a mile and three-quarters long, and Cairo and New Orleans will have their streets joined together, and be plodding comfortably along under a single mayor and a mutual board of aldermen. There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns of conjecture out of such a trifling investment of fact.”

Coincidentally Mark Twain Died on (21 Apr 1910) the same year before the above alarmist piece was published (Friday 18 November 1910), So now, I need to know if there was a link. Thanks a lot Ivan lol. :)
