Gleick makes his exit after days of ferocious debate about his tactics in exposing Heartland, a rightwing think tank with a core mission of spreading disinformation about climate change.
That statement is a blatant, malicious lie. Heartland disseminates information which they believe to be correct.
The Guardian also calls Gleick’s felonies – “tactics.” Nice seeing the rats getting flooded out of the woodwork.
They are not just wrong, they are evil. When your own world view is quasi-religious, you view the contest of ideas in religious terms.

I guess it is now justified to call the Grauniad a “shady stay-behind group of Stalinist outcasts determined to disseminate Marxist propaganda”. Characterizes them better than their characterization of Heartland.
The Guardian’s claim is staggering and one which, in my estimation, will be hard to establish. It looks like libel, sounds like libel, walks like libel… I suppose we should be generous and consider that Peter Gleick’s actions are, for many, a bitter pill to swallow. The reaction resembles that of a petulant child who will cringe, revile, and despise nasty medicine. If we are generous, I suppose that we should allow for that. Still, accusing people of wanton and irresponsible dishonesty (their “core mission” apparently) is unsupportable (and, honestly folks, just unbelievable). Anybody not burdened with a tin-ear can detect the rancor and the journalistic failure of the Guardian to maintain a disinterested viewpoint. I wonder if, given such a failure, one could credibly claim to be a journalist.
What does it matter what Heartland believes any more than it did for the 9/11 bombers?
It’s funny because “Lazarus” accuses other people of not being able to read.
Wow. Now Lazarus is comparing skeptics with 7th Century Savages who fly planes into buildings, stone rape victims and saw the heads off of living victims. If there is anything that surpasses Godwin’s Law, that’s got to be in the running for the prize.
As to the topic at hand, the “core principle of climate disinformation” is going to be a “Popcorn & Beer” festival when it comes to the discovery phases of the upcoming court cases.
That is the exact reaction I was going for. I thought about using Hitler as an example but that is so 1940s.
The point remains, is a challenge to someone’s “information which they believe to be correct” really amount to libel if you believe that it is incorrect?
I very much doubt that Heartland do not have the ball for any legal fight;

Lazarus,
In the United States, it is not a crime to have an opinion. Why don’t you move to North Korea?
I absolutely agree with you, and thank God, having an opinion or even expressing an opinion is not a crime. Actually, I don’t think that that holds true in North Korea or even in most of “free” Europe (unbelievable, but true). As for the general invitation to move to North Korea: well, it is tantalizing — I have never been there — but on the whole, if I were invited, I would mostly likely decline, with regrets of course as it would unquestionably be interesting. From my visits to neighboring countries, you might be correct in supposing that having an opinion is a dangerous thing, or so the locals have told me. And really, it’s not that bad not to have an opinion. You learn to live with it.
So you are now saying that it is OK for the Guardian to have an opinion?
Go to fakegate for all the latest.
Disinformation: 1955 from Russian дезинформация (1949), which is said to be from French.
But I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that so many Alarmists are fond of the word.
Heartland will probably deal with the guardian news rag in due course, I suspect they are already on notice, but Gleick must remain an urgent priority. There is no certainty at this stage that Gleick hasn’t done this before or that he had help. Until Gleick is prosecuted he will remain an important asset for any organization that needed a man like him.
Define “Guardian newspaper”
Answer – Newsprint with quite a good crossword buried in a dyslexic socialist diatribe.
