Steven, well done for spotting this! In fact it’s GHCN that are doing this. Hansen just uses the GHCN data. I have written to GHCN reporting it as an error. Their CHANGELOG file describes it as a “minor correction”. In fact they cooled Reykjavik in the 1940s by 2.2 degrees as you pointed out in an earlier post.

Steve had focussed in on the “after suspicious records removed box”, but in Iceland these temps were exactly the same as the “GHCN adjusted” box.
Well no – Hansen has added a degree – it’s the GHCN data which is a degree lower.
