Not to be outdone by Phil “One Thermometer” Jones, James “Reverse The Trend” Hansen has been doing some super-duper work in Australia. Look what Paul Homewood dug up.
AdjustmentGate–Australia « NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT
The GISS v2 and V3 graphs above are for the same station, and are at the same scale. They are normalized to 1960.

It is a “Travesty” that there is such “a fine line between being truthful and effective”. About a universe wide in my estimate. Or is the 1200 kilometers?
Good work, Paul!
What’s 1 degree C of cooling among friends who are saving the world for the cause?
Steve, How about a competition to find the most egregious example of “adjustments”?
Paul’s example in Australia does cover 6 decades & turns a -0.7°C/century trend into a +1.6°C/century trend(over the common years), with the largest “adjustment” being -1.33°C & a cumulative adjustment of -30.12°C. Admittedly, this was quite a feat, but it doesn’t measure up to what I found in South America.
My contest entry is La Paz in the Alto Plano of Bolivia. Over the 7 decades of common years, a v2 temp trend of -1.7°C/century was turned into a v3 temp trend of +4.3°C/century! Now that is a whopper of an “adjustment”! How do you accomplish such a feat? Well, you make “adjustments” of -3.4°C, actually 3 decades of -3.4°C “adjustments” & of course make those “adjustments” on the earliest 3 decades to ‘step on the teeter-totter’ in a way to most effectively reverse the trend. Then make the cumulative adjustment total up to -129.83°C. And presto, you’ve just made Winston Smith from the Ministry of Truth smile from ear to ear.
GISS plots found at:

Steve/Paul, feel free to post on your blogs w/blink graphics.
Now the CAGW advocates will probably say, this is only one station, but w/the few stations in South America & GISS’s ‘smearing’ of data up to 1200km, how can it not impact global numbers? When you combine these “adjusted” records w/the sparse early records, we do not have an accurate picture of what the long term trends have been. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not claiming that the earth hasn’t been warming. I’m just saying that the warming has been somewhat exaggerated and that the warming has not been global(even BEST found ~1/3 of stations had cooling). Since CO2 is ‘well-mixed’, why would ~1/3 of the stations not show a long-term warming?
I would challenge the keepers of the data to provide documented evidence of why these huge adjustments have been made. This is not just random adjustments, but -3.4°C to every month of the year. That’s over 6°F averaged over a whole year. Were 1918 thermometers that bad? I think not. I think the freezing & boiling points of water were known back then & calibrations were not that bad. A reasonable explanation is all I ask for. Until one is given, we should use unadjusted data … if it can be found. This is science at its worst.
Thanks
It’s a small victory at least and at last they’re miserable at the Dept of Climate Change and unfortunately need cheering up at taxpayers expense.

The good thing is that they’re just digging themselves in deeper with every fraudulent action.
This could go on for another five years. Right now none of this is penetrating the halls of the warmistas, for whom the mantra is still, “the scientific evidence is overwhelming”. (None of these recent events has had any effect on these people, not this [certainly], not Fakegate, not even Climategate or the Hockey Stick debacle.) But they can’t keep it up for ever (especially as the temperatures decline).
So keep on trucking!
