Climate Sensitivity – Zero

Satellites have been monitoring the Earth’s temperature for 30 years. For the first fifteen years, temperatures were rising. For the last 15 years, temperatures have been steady, while CO2 emissions have gone through the roof.

15 full years of flat line….. Steve, I recall a rather famous alarmist scientist stating 15 years of flat line would suffice to show serious question about the CAGW theory….. I just can’t remember which one.

    • There were several things that you need to consider.

      1. Pinatubo is retroactively cooling temperatures
      2. Heat is sinking like a rock to the bottom of the ocean
      3. Chinese aerosols are cooling Antarctica

      • avatar suyts says:

lol, undoubtedly! That sinking heat is prolly what causing the earthquakes and tsunamis!

The retroactive cooling is the trickiest thing about climatedendrophrenology.

      • avatar rannxeroxx says:

Problem with your “sinking” heat theory are the thousands of Argo sensors in the ocean that have been in place for many years have not detected this great migration of heat. They float to transmit, sink to 1000+ M for a week, then float back to transmit. Now some have argued that the heat somehow is deeper then 1000 M but it has to pass through the surface water to get deeper and scientific instruments are not seeing it.

And if coal Aerosols have such a dramatic cooling affect, why did we ever see ANY warming from 1947 to 1970′s before we installed pollution controls?

Instead of just trying to make everything fit one believe, just follow the where the science and you own common sense leads you.

      • avatar Philip says:

        Steve, buddy heat doesn’t sink.

    • avatar suyts says:

Well, ok, Phil Jones is one of them, but there was another……
      Here’s Phil’s statement about 15 years

I think it was Ben Santer – agree with me or I’ll punch you out – who has recently ‘discovered’ that a 17 or 18 year trend is now required. I suppose that they will extend that shortly.

Of course, that only applies to flat or cooling periods. Global warming itself is proven by a hot day.

    • avatar Gator says:

At the very least, the models have been thoroughly trashed…

“According to the NOAA State of the Climate 2008 report, climate computer model simulations show that if observations find that the globe has not warmed for periods of 15 years or more, the climate models predicting man-made warming from CO2 will be falsified at a confidence level of 95%:”

“Near-zero and even negative trends are common for intervals of a decade or less in the simulations, due to the model’s internal climate variability. The simulations rule out (at the 95% level) zero trends for intervals of 15 yr or more, suggesting that an observed absence of warming of this duration is needed to create a discrepancy with the expected present-day warming rate.”

  2. avatar slimething says:

Ben Santer upped the ante to 17 years. At 17 it will be 20, and so on.

    • avatar Al Gored says:

Sorry slimething! If I had scrolled down one more notch I would have seen that you had already captured my thoughts exactly.

So I’m redundant folks… if this happens again tomorrow it will mean a catastrophic trend towards total redundancy. I need UN help.

  3. avatar Andy DC says:

Now the alarmists are talking about a “step ladder”, up then steady then up, rather than a hockey stick. So we need to see a step down to shut them up for good. Of course, if that happens, they will say that evil Chinese aerosols combined with SUV emissions are going to cause an Ice Age and that we still need to deindutrialize right away.

  4. avatar Eric S says:

“For the last 15 years, temperatures have been steady, while CO2 emissions have gone through the roof.”

From what I’ve gathered, there’s no empirical evidence that CO2 causes any climate warming. Yes, CO2 is a greenhouse gas, but it a minor trace component, dwarfed in importance by natural fluctuations of the sun, ocean, clouds etc.
    Does that sound about right?

    Nome got their Diesel fuel.

  6. avatar Hugh K says:

But….but you’re purposely taking the satellites out of context.

What the satellites meant to say was when factoring in the bristlenosecone of human produced rocket ships along with earth-polluting space balls and substitute surface temp data from much more reliable airport tarmac measurements where convenient, then a consensus starts to emerge of a dramatic upward-trending hockey stick over the last 15 years on said chart.

This lack of Real Science understanding in AGW makes me feel to some extent ashamed to be an American.

  7. avatar GAry says:

I believe Gavin Schmidt said 10 years of no warming would convince him in a comment on Real Climate back in the early 2000s…..
Oddly, he has never brought it up again.

    • avatar Eric Barnes says:

It’s nice to know that completely unprincipled climate “scientists” will stay that way til the bitter end.

  8. avatar Katabasis says:

I simply don’t know what its going to take. All I ever hear now is references back to the models, insisting that the catastrophic heat is still latent in the system some how. FFS.

Meanwhile, I thought this was amusing – look at the hockey stick currently created by the BEST data set:

  9. avatar Lawrie Ayres says:

I know it’s hard not to laugh but unfortunately there are still politicians heeding these cretins; our Julia Gillard for one. There are a million drivers that could warm the planet but the Climate Scientists know of only one and it is failing to do the job hence there must be a anthropogenic cooling agent out there because there’s no way it could be natural.
