‘Invisible tsunami’ of rising sea levels puts US coasts at risk, expert says

By msnbc.com staff and news services
For the nearly 5 million people who live along the U.S. coasts from Maine to the Gulf of Mexico and the West Coast, rising seas fueled by global warming have doubled the risk of so-called once-a-century floods, according to a trio of environmental reports released Wednesday.

In California, some places that have never seen severe floods could be vulnerable to them in the next decade or two, Strauss said.

There has been no sea level rise detected in California. Several tide gauges have been going down there.

Forecasts for sea level rise this century range from 2 to 7 feet with most estimates centering around 3 to 4 feet

Even the highest IPCC forecast is less than two feet. MSNBC is engaging in blatant fraud.

Well if it’s from that bastion of fair and objective reporting, MSNBC, then it must be true! /s

If you have double the number of “hundred year floods”, they are not hundred year floods. They are “fifty year floods”.

Now the brown recluse spider is spreading north due to Global Warming:

“Brown Recluse Spiders Could Head North

Vetter worked with Saupe on her master’s project, in which she tracked the spiders’ predicted migration through “ecological niche modeling.”

She used two models to predict the spider’s range in 2020, 2050 and 2080, given the effects of global warming, concluding they might move north but those left behind would die off. “

“There has been no sea level rise detected in California.”

That’s only because the tsunami is invisible. The West Side Highway is already under water, invisible water.

  8. There is no mystery in the media citing ‘experts’ who are actually idiots. I read that sort of thing every day. Always have and unfortunately, probably always will. Media is as much about entertainment as it is about reporting news.

However, the interesting issues here are:

    1. People in high authority who should know better are making claims that aren’t actually supportable scientifically. However, since they can always argue that what they say will happen decades into the future (and long after they have retired) they feel the ramifications of their actions are likely to be minimal for them.

    2. Most of us are sceptical of the latest fad diet by a nutritional ‘expert’, medical study, economic projection, etc. Most of us adopt a “let’s wait and see if this pans out” approach. But when it comes to climate, there is this strange little but very very vocal core of Believers who consider any pronouncement of fear as truth beyond questioning.

“For the nearly 5 million people who live along the U.S. coasts from Maine to the Gulf of Mexico and the West Coast”

There are 8 million people in NYC alone. As we have clearly seen before, numbers just don’t matter to these “scientists”.

  10. avatar Rogelio says:

As a scientist with 4 degrees including stats I would have to say that this is the best climate site by far only data and proof of manipulation shown clearly well done Goddard

  11. avatar Wayne Ward (truthsword) says:

Well to be fair, green companies and technologies are dropping like flies, both “climategate” email drops, Gleick, 99% of climate predictions/projections have failed, the sea level data going down for a bit despite adjustments, walk backs from Arctic death spiral, missing heat hiding in the deepest darkest part of the ocean, failed climate summits, headlines like “Global Warming Making The World Colder”…. it’s a sinking ship, sure it will sink slow, but it’s time for AGWers to “shoot their wad”, the last ditch effort to shift opinion. Look for more and more desperation and outright silly headlines, and money being thrown at green like crazy by desperate pols… and since the can’t help themsleves, more Gleicks… it will happen. Also look for some science agencies and more scientists to start or continue walking back or to start walking back from crazy climate land to more of a science side. If only it would happen sooner… *sigh*

    • avatar Shooter says:

We only hope the believers would drop like flies. They’re just as bad as CTs. I mean, look at Mann: He’s been exposed for the liar that he is, yet he still blabbers as if he is a great scientist. If he ever was exposed to the scientists of old, they would’ve laughed in his face – hard.

  12. avatar GeologyJim says:

Yeah, nothing says “science” quite like an UNFALSIFIABLE HYPOTHESIS based on trends of an INVISIBLE change [tsunami, whatever]

I am currently selling shares in an INVISIBLE GOLD MINE at an UNDISCLOSED LOCATION that computer models verify has PROVEN RESERVES of 5,000,000,000,000 dollars/euros/riyals/kumquats. High-ranking Nigerian Treasury officials are major investors in the venture.

All of these projections are supported by consensus pronouncements of the International Panel on Convenient Conclusions. Our findings are only opposed by deniers and anti-science crackpots who are paid-off by evil carbon-spewing, cigar-chomping, rich white peeeeeeeeeple.

    • avatar DirkH says:

why don’t you keep the gold mine and just sell the invisible gold?

      • avatar Mike Davis says:

A whole lot less work that way!

        • avatar Mike Davis says:

There is a lot of work involved in digging invisible gold out of an invisible gold mine, and think of all the invisible laborers you would have to house and feed. The thought of the complexity boggles the mind. I am getting worn out just thinking about it.

I like the leading photo of Category 0 Irene as it ‘slams Asbury Park, NJ.’

  14. avatar Mike Davis says:

I know ow to fix the problem!
For 50 billion dollars I and a few friends will travel the coast and erect Invisible Tsunami Barriers that will protect from the invisible Tsunami. They are made of a super special material that will stop the damage from invisible tsunamis but allow normal use of the coast.

  15. avatar Gary Hall says:

A couple weeks back, your’s truly, once again made a call to NOAA – their sea-level monitoring/trend unit – and spoke at length with one of their scientists, an oceanographer, and he was dead clear in confirming NOAA’s view that there is absolutely no evidence in their 100 year+ global sea-level trend records, of any increase in the rate of global sea level rise – zippo. Repeat – there is no acceleration in the rate of sea level, globally, even after the past supposed 70+ years of increasing CO2 emissions. Oh hum – wake me up when it starts, OK?

Also, of note, when I pushed him a bit on trying to be specific in separating out the period prior to the 1940′s to that after, in regards to sea level rise – he jumped on the temperature issue (I’d indicated that “they say” was more warming after), saying that the earth has been in a solid warming cycle for about 150 years, and most of that was prior to 1940.

    Those darn scientists.
