Compare temperatures north of 80N vs autumn of 2007 below. Temperatures are more than 5C cooler than four years ago. This is due to unprecedented warming in the Arctic caused by rising greenhouse gas emissions.

I compared October 19, 2007 to October 19,2011 at Crysophere Today and its obvious that there is more ice now than in 2007:

But the NY Times asserts this summer was one of the “warmest on record” in the arctic.

I want to see a reporter from the NY Times take their lawn chair and sit out in the sun at the Arctic circle and report on the warm temperatures there.

In the Sept 24, 2011 issue of the Economist there is an article (“Arctic sea ice is melting faster than climate models predict. Why?”) that informs the reader that “the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the atmosphere as a whole”.

I’m sure they got this ‘information’ from somewhere; it would be interesting to know where. (Probably it’s based on a trend line from some model.)

At this point it might be worth setting up a lottery to predict how long they will be able to keep this stuff up. Given the way temperatures, etc. seem to be going, I would say 3 years or less.

who cares about the Arctic….Italy is where the fun is

Manslaughter trial opens against experts for Italy quake

ROME (AP) – Seven scientists and other experts have gone on trial on manslaughter charges for allegedly failing to sufficiently warn residents before a devastating 2009 earthquake that killed more than 300 people in central Italy.

But even if it’s the coldest in a decade, it is still in the top ten warmest EVER because ALL of the top ten warmest years were in the last ten years. It says so in the Washington Post, so it must be so.

This is the perfect example of what I call intellectual dishonesty. Everything has to be read one way instead of what the data says. Global warming is the cause for whether it gets hotter, or if it gets colder. Why can’t people just be honest and say that they really have no idea of what the climate is doing and that they have no solutions.

Abso-fricking-lute BULLSHITE!!! I am so tired of liberal azzhole idiots talking out their azzes about that which allows cap n trade legislation. May you all rot in hell for your dishonesty!

    DrRockZo,

I urge calm. I know that sarcasm doesn’t come off well in print, but let me assure you that Mr. Goddard’s quote of “Temperatures are more than 5C cooler than four years ago. This is due to unprecedented warming in the Arctic caused by rising greenhouse gas emissions.” was intended as pure sarcasm at its finest.

the above is interesting but also worth noting

on the dmi website they do say-

Since the 1970s the extent of sea ice has been measured from satellites. From these measurements we know that the sea ice extent today is significantly smaller than 30 years ago. During the past 10 years the melting of sea ice has accelerated, and especially during the ice extent minimum in September large changes are observed. The sea ice in the northern hemisphere have never been thinner and more vulnerable.

though looking at their web page given above, this seems a strange thing to say.
