Looks like the 18th might be right, even at norsex. Still held on pretty well. It would appear we now have too much sea ice. Doesn’t sound like anything a good stiff tax wouldn’t fix.
UIUC (the only people who actually provide daily data) showed peak area on the first of April.
If you compare the following graph
http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/seaice/extent/AMSRE_Sea_Ice_Extent.png
with
http://arctic-roos.org/observations/satellite-data/sea-ice/observation_images/ssmi1_ice_ext.png
you’ll see that the 2010 extent in April was greater than the previous maximum in 2003. Therefore, the 2012 extent, which has been greater than 2010 in the Mar-Apr period, is also the largest in the last 10 years in this period.
It will be interesting to follow how it behaves in the next months, during the summer, in comparison with 2010 and 2003.

They are not updating since Oct/2011.)
Well, that was fun while it lasted……. now on to the 6 month droning and wailing about melting ice.
Yeah we are going to die because of it.
but it’s closer to the 1979-2000 average now than it was 2 weeks ago, indicating an average cooling trend.

A lot of sea ice loss in one day.Where did it go?
The wind compacted it
I guess people do not understand that wind is the primary driver of ice conditions in the Arctic.
I have just realised that saturday is missing.
