Ice extends out the Aleutian Island Chain about 300 miles further than normal this year. Those poor Polar Bears have to walk an extra 300 miles. I hope they don’t starve to death.

Does anyone know the last year this happened?
The fact that we cannot find open water is a travesty
Probably in 2000.

Polar bears? How about the seals who might have to swim 300 miles to get air? With a much longer edge, seals might be more spread out and thus harder to find. Now, that would be a problem for the bears.
I am more concerned about the poor penguins in that region. They have so much further to reach the water.
There are no penguins in the Arctic…
you learn something new every day
It’s hard to relate to miles. How many Manhattans is that?
We use the much simpler “SydHarbs” system. As in how many Sydney Harbours are there in the Warragamba Dam or whatever. There are four SydHarbs in Warragamba.
“The best estimate of the estuary’s volume at high tide had been about 500,000 megalitres, but the authority now knows it is 562,000 megalitres”

“On top of storing 1.15 million megalitres of precious drinking
water, Wivenhoe Dam can also store an additional 1.45 million
megalitres, equal to 2.5 times the volume of Sydney Harbour. ”

“Australian households and businesses consumed the equivalent of almost 50 times the volume of Sydney Harbour”
“The agriculture industry consumed two-thirds of water consumption in Australia (16,660 GL). This volume is the equivalent to over 33 times the volume of Sydney Harbour.”

See. Now converting all that ice into SydHarbs, that’s a job for another day!
This is because of a scorching hot arctic. I can hear the screams from here. Okay, maybe that was a passing Fire Truck, but I heard a noise.
This is going to screw up the opilio crab fishing season. Can’t wait till the episodes of Deadliest Catch are broadcast.
