These days they just ignore the past; that way they can claim everything is “unprecedented”, and can make things sound scary.
I expect a lot of geologists just shake their head at “climate scientists”.
The situation is even more ironic. Everybody still agrees the planet is near its lowest temperatures in half a billion years…even New Scientist has no qualms in showing as much to its readers.
And yet for unfathomable reasons, the IPCC meets up to debate how to avoid excessive warmth. If only!
They made no money lying about climate or weather back in the “old days”.
check out –itsthesunstupid.com and go to (scroll down in alphabetical order) george kulka . the site brought up there has some magazine articles that talk about the coming iceage and that if humanity does not do something fast we are going to cause a “tipping over ” to an ice age and probably all going to die . the articles sound very much like todays fear mongering .
if you google kulka you will see that he strongly believes in a coming ice age . maybe he is right . who can say. as far as i can tell from reading about him i believe he might be genuine . not like some of these “climate scientists “of today
Scientists in the past actually cared about science and were optimistic about the future. Futurism was a very strong movement and people were excited about the future. Not so much now. Futurism is a dead movement.
Earth is a living planet with an environment that takes care of its needs. To stay healthy enough to support life Earth occasionally needs a bit of change. That time-to-change event is important… and if allowed to follow along its natural way is beneficial. However, just like any good recipe, one can’t go dumping in extra bits of this-n-that and expect to retain the original result. Maybe a little bit of extra stuff gets by… but there is a limit. If mistakes were made during the Industrial Revolution and its aftermath (potentially speeding up the process a bit) they weren’t done on purpose. Acknowledging that people have done things like build cities where there once was water (and where water will be again) is not being pessimistic about the future. It is being realistic. People simply now need to use their collective ingenuity to prepare for what is to come. Nothing bad there. Plenty of jobs. The opportunity to develop new technologies. And a better future for those who come after us. Sitting around pretending that nothing unusual is happening is what will do the most damage of all. No one in the future will thank us for that.
